Wheel…of….FORTUNE!!!!
October 26, 2008 by Mallory.
So yesterday, Wheel of Fortune had tryouts in Mississippi (which is close to here, about an hour drive). What we had to do was fill out a little application, then they put it in one of those big rolley things (kinda like with bingo) and they chose 5 names at a time to come up to the stage and tryout/try to be somewhat entertaining, etc. So of course I just HAD to go, because I watch Wheel of Fortune religiously (when I get home in time). I was just hoping and hoping my name would get called…and it did!!!! I got to go upstage and make a fool of myself and try to guess the puzzle! There were 4 other people up there with me. They did the puzzle like the final round on the show (where they do the final spin and then they guess a letter, have a few seconds to solve, then go on to the next person if they don’t get it). I knew the answer 2 people in front of me, but the person RIGHT in front of me solved it RIGHT as her time ran out!!! UGH! I was so upset, but hopefully I’ll still get a call back! They said within the next couple months, they’ll either email me or send me a letter to come to the final audition. Hopefully I’ll be able to go! I really want to be on the show! Hopefully later I’ll post some pictures that Wendell took for me. (sorry that I’m not so good at the whole posting pictures thing…) Until next time!

Dog Poop Initiative
October 24, 2008 by Mallory.
I thought I would write something since no one has written anything in quite a while. So there is this book called Dog Poop Initiative. I got it while student teaching in Utah. It is about this guy whose dog poops in the middle of this soccer field and leaves it there. Then all the players come and are pointing and it and basically just telling everyone to avoid it. Then there’s this father and son that come along and the father just scoops it up with something and throws it away. And the moral of the story is to be a scooper (just fix the problem, even if it’s not yours, or pick something up without asking). I read this book to my class. Ever since then, whenever I ask them to pick something up, they always chant “I’m a scooper! I’m a scooper!” as they pick it up (because most of the time its not theirs). Sometimes I would wonder if they really knew what it meant, but then one day one of my students told me this:
“Yesterday, I told my mom, Mom, you’re a scooper! And then she said, what is that?? So I told her it’s when you do something good without being asked.” And after he told me that, I was just like, YAY!!! maybe if they tell their families then we can make a little bit of this world a better place. Who knows. Hopefully! In general, things are going well. It’ll be nice to go on vacation, but as for now, we’re just in the groove of life and getting through. Until next time!

2nd half
October 15, 2008 by Ashley.
I know my post looked a little short. I write my posts in Word first and I just realized I had a 2nd page I didn’t include. So here it is. This is supposed to follow Yay We’re Back post.
Lydia was getting old enough to need to be occupied more. Pat thought a play mat would be perfect for her but all the ones at the store were over $30 and we’re really watching our budget. Wouldn’t you know, Pat found this one at a garage sale for $5! We had to say our thankful prayers that day!

Lydia was lying on her back asleep on the boppy. I heard her wake up and walked over to the couch and there she was on her stomach watching TV. I need to be more careful of what’s on the TV now!

Pat also found a bouncy chair at that same tag sale. We and she love it because she can be totally upright without us having to hold her. Plus her absolute favorite position is standing up. Pat and I wouldn’t be surprise if she decided to simply start walking before crawling. Also, Leah gave us this really cute outfit. The hat was getting small so I was determined to have her wear it to church before she outgrew it. I’m sure it looked adorable on Leah’s Anya, but Lydia looks a tad ridiculous in it. I insisted though that she keep the hat on through church. I was so sad to find out later (because Pat watches her in the hallway if she’s crying while I teach our primary class) that she had pooped out all over it and had to be changed in the middle of church.

For once Lydia was willing to cuddle with me! (FYI, that’s the outfit she had to wear after she pooped out of her cute extravagant one)

It’s sad how amazed and enthralled she is by the TV. She gets hypnotized by it. Now I only let her watch “Baby Signing Time.” It’s educational for her, but it adds to my problem of not being able to fall asleep easily because the songs play over and over in my head. I’ve completely memorized the DVD and she hasn’t even started talking or signing yet!

Yay! We’re back!
October 14, 2008 by Ashley.
So of course the day I actually get around to writing a post, the website goes down.
I always mean to post more often, but never get around to it, which means my posts are long and outdated. I suppose that’s better than not writing at all.
Anyways, I figured I should write a bit about how Pat and I are doing and not have EVERYTHING be about Lydia (although all my pictures are of her). With the school year starting again I have started tutoring and substitute teaching again. I only have 1 student to tutor right now, but hopefully that will change. I was just really blessed last year and I’m sure the economy has contributed to people not being able to afford private tutoring. Fortunately though, Pat has a job that allows him to work from home once in a while. So about once a week he’ll work from home and I have the chance to go substitute teaching. I know I probably sound like a horrible mother for saying this, but it’s really nice to get a break from Lydia for a few hours a day (and trust the person taking care of her) and Pat gets a chance to see Lydia at her best. She’s cheery and fun in the morning, but whenever he gets home in the evening, she’s always more fussy and can be quite trying on our patience.
Lydia with her cousin Linnea. Linnea is 3 weeks older than Lydia. And of course we made things confusing to the family because they both have the same initials so I’m sure they’ll get their names mixed up in the future (Linnea Echo Crummett and Lydia Eve Crummett).

Lydia ready for a day outside. I was so sad to find out it’s pretty much always cold in Washington so when it was sunny, I popped Lydia in this outfit. Check out the shoes!! They were size newborn, but I don’t get it because she’s 4 months old and they still don’t fit her. Other babies must have very long feet.

Grandmas have a way with Lydia. She’ll just sit and stare with me, but when we were in Connecticut, my mom could always make Lydia talk and have a conversation with her. Pat’s mom got her to finally giggle more than once! (You can hear Pat’s dad talking in the background with Pat).

Yes that is trays of fruit you see in the background. You can tell we’re first time parents when while we’re going grocery shopping Lydia was just sitting there all bundled up (it was the first really cold day here in CO) and Pat thought she was just too cute and had to whip out the camera from out diaper bag right there in the grocery store and snap a picture.

Lydia in action (pretty boring, but mostly so Grandma can see her)
